Celebrities face a constant battle of attempting to avert the paparazzi in order to have any semblance of a personal life. Particularly rich tabloid fodder is a celebrity wedding. Often, famous people go to extreme lengths to keep their plans under wraps in order to enjoy their special day privately. Here’s are some of the most famous celebrities who have ever pulled off secret weddings!
Amy Got Married After A 3-Month Romance
Comedienne Amy Schumer made headlines in February of 2018 after it was revealed that she married her boyfriend of three months, chef Chris Fischer. Although the wedding was sudden, Amy had her famous friends on hand to celebrate her nuptials including Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Lawrence, Jake Gyllenhaal, Larry David, and David Spade. The couple also had a funny addition to their wedding in the form of comedian John Early as their officiant. He performed the marriage ceremony as his character “Vicky”, who can be seen in Netflix’s The Characters. Jennifer Lawrence said of her friend’s wedding, “It was beautiful. It was very sudden, but it was, I was sobbing the whole [time]. His vows were stunning. It’s when two people really love each other and they really mean it, it shows, and it was a beautiful ceremony and an amazing time. I couldn’t be happier for them.”
Barry’s Secret 40-Year Romance
Beloved crooner Barry Manilow revealed that he secretly wed his longtime love and manager Garry Kief in 2014. This came as a shock to some because Barry never publicly addressed his sexuality until 2017, although the couple had already been together nearly 40 years. The wedding was held at the couple’s Palm Springs home with around 50 guests. They caught their guests by surprise, as they had been told that they would simply be attending a luncheon. In 2017, Barry spoke about his secret relationship to People magazine, saying, “I didn’t think it was going to be that emotional. It was deeper than we thought it was going to be, looking at each other, saying, ‘I love you’ in front of people.”
Ellen’s Private Love
Actress Ellen Page took to Instagram with the surprising news that she was married. Ellen started the year of 2018 off with a bang in January when she posted a photo of her and new wife Emma Portner’s hands, complete with wedding bands and the caption, “Can’t believe I get to call this extraordinary woman my wife.” Ellen’s bride Emma shared the excitement, posting the same photo on her own Instagram with the simple caption, “@ellenpage I LOVE YOU.” Emma is a dancer and choreographer whose work has been used by Justin Bieber in his “Life is Worth Living” video and throughout his Purpose World Tour. The two seem ecstatic to be settled into married life with one another.
That ’70s Wedding

Most of the guests didn’t even know about the ceremony until the last minute. Britney said of the quickie ceremony, “I just thought it would be too much if we had done it when we were supposed to. It became this huge thing … That’s why I wanted to sneak and do it our little way.” Allegedly, both the bride and groom cried during the ceremony and went out clubbing after. The two stars are notoriously private but in 2018 Rachel revealed some personal anecdotes about their marriage including that she never considered marriage until meeting the Bond actor.
